 MOUNT MINSI

Mount Minsi is the mountain on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap.  Climbing Mount Minsi starts in the town of Delaware Water Gap.  Find the Deerhead Inn on the corner of Route 611 and Mountain Road.  Go up Mountain Road and make your first left turn to the trailhead parking.

The climb up Mount Minsi is what I call an “Out and Back” hike along the Appalachian Trail 1 ½ miles to the top and 1 ½ miles back down to the bottom.  The top of Mount Minsi is a 1,060 foot vertical climb with a total elevation above sea level of 1,463 feet.  The scenic overlook offers fantastic views of Mount Tammany and much of New Jersey.

There are several very interesting “spurs” along the trail.  One spur is called the “Resort Point Spur” which runs to an area where the famous “Kittatinny Hotel” once stood before it burned to the ground.   You can also visit Lake Lenape, where Fred Astaire and his sister used to visit as children.

Also in the general area was another famous resort “The Water Gap House” where President Theodore Roosevelt stayed for a visit in 1906.

Mount Minsi is an easy climb without difficulty. The natural beauty along the Appalachian Trail is awesome and the climb offers history as well as scenic wonders.
